Jewelry to Chew on and More

ok, so maybe you don’t gnaw on your necklaces and bracelets, but I bet your babies did!  SmartMom has created a line of jewelry for just that.  Big enough so they don’t choke and non-toxic, phthalate, BPA and PVC free so you don’t have to call poison control.  I’ve been a mom once or twice, so I know we’ve all dangled the keys and let them grab our hair and necklaces, we’ll do anything to keep them happy, but we have to draw the line somewhere.   SmartMom teething bling keychains to the rescue!

7-Eleven for Susan G. Komen

I stumbled on some donuts this morning at 7-Eleven, of course my son wanted this $1.19 donut instead of the $.60 one next door.  From the register I said ok, and upon further inspection saw cute little ribbons in different shades of pink sprinkled on top of the pale pink icing.  I breathed a sigh of relief knowing that at least some of that money from the overpriced donut would be going toward a good cause.  It was the last one and I didn’t get to grab a picture before my son had eaten half, but I wanted to show you that it was cute.

“This is an easy, not to mention delicious, way for people to give to this important cause,” said Joe Hermes, 7-Eleven’s senior fresh food director. “They can grab a pink donut for themselves on the way to work, fill a box to take to the office or designate a day of the week as ‘Passionately Pink for the Cure(R)’ day with these donuts and other pink treats like M&Ms(R) Brand Chocolate Candies and coffee in pink mugs.”

Breast Cancer and 6 Degrees of Separation

According to Wikipedia “Six degrees of separation refers to the idea that, if a person is one step away from each person they know and two steps away from each person who is known by one of the people they know, then everyone is an average of six “steps” away from each person on Earth.”  Which got me thinking, you may not have physically come in contact with someone that has dealt with breast cancer in one way or another, but using the rule above you actually have.

I never thought it would hit so close to home, then my sister went for her annual mammogram (not to be confused with a candygram) and they found something.  Of course they thought they would wait 6 months and take a look again.  It’s not like you can hibernate and wake up when your next appointment comes, so you worry and worry and worry some more, which does nobody any good!  So today was the day for that appointment and the good news is it isn’t cancer. 

So for all of you out there going through your 6 months waiting period, whether it is before, during or after your diagnosis, just rememeber the 6 degrees of separation and that there is another strong women going through it with you maybe even next door.

Keep the courage and remain positive and let’s collectively help raise money to find a cure!
